

The Institute is involved in the postgraduate training of qualified specialists. The License for the right of conducting educational activity in sphere of vocational training ¹ 6017 from 09.02.2006 to 09.02.2011. There are 6 specialities with the framework of geographical and biological sciences:
Earth Sciences:
- 25.00.27 – Hydrology, water resources, hydrochemistry
- 25.00.35 – Geoinformatics
- 25.00.36 – Geoecology
Biological sciences:
- 03.00.15 – Botany
- 03.00.16 – Ecology
- 03.00.18 – Hydrobiology
Admission and graduation from postgraduate study are carried out according to plans approved in Management of the Cadres of the Russian Academy of Science.
Post-graduate students training is carried out according to the individual plans considered at sessions of scientific laboratories and authorized by director of the Institute. Post-graduate students are annually certified in the scientific divisions.
Post-graduate students are actively included in realization of annual plans SR (Scientific Researches) and are coauthors of sections corresponding to developed problems. They participate with reports at the Russian and international conferences.
The Institute by means of the basic postgraduate study and, partly, the basic correspondence postgraduate study prepares the staff for itself. In the form of the basic correspondence postgraduate study the Institute prepares the staff for the rest organizations of the Russian Academy of Science and Ministry of Higher Education RF. Themes of dissertational works are formulated according to perspective directions of development of scientific researches.
As additional opportunities in development of new, modern methods of limnological researches the Institute uses invitations of foreign colleagues to training of post-graduate students on the certain problems.
Since 2003 in the Institute the doctoral studies on three specialities is open:

- 25.00.36 – Geoecology
- 03.00.16 – Ecology
A professional training through doctoral studies is carried out, mainly, in the form of correspondence course of nonresident competitors.
