Atlas  «Lake Ladoga» The contents of the atlas shows results of the long-term complex researches carried out by Institute of Limnology and some other organizations, working in the field of dynamics of an earth's crust, hydrology, hydrophysics, hydrochemistry and hydrobiology. Methods of compiling of the atlas included planning expedition researches, performance of expedition works on the lake, primary and office studies of materials, their discussion, reviewing and editing. For more full interpretation of features of lake’s ecosystem were used materials of other organizations referring to their authorship.

The atlas consist from 4 parts. The first includes a history of researches with them started till now. The brief information on a role of Lake Ladoga in defense of Leningrad in the Second World War is inserted. The comparison of morphometric characteristics of Lake Ladoga with characteristics of other largest lakes of the world is given.

The second part includes a host data on a lake basin, such as reconstruction of stages of Lake Ladoga development in sub- and postglacial epoch, a map of bottom relief, the tectonic scheme of Lake Ladoga region, a geological map, a map of overburden and modern bottom sediments, maps of microelements and polluting substances distribution.

In the third part hydrological and hydrophysical characteristics, and also a total mineralization, ionic structure of the water mass, distribution of hydrochemical components of lake waters, such as phosphorus, nitrogen, organic carbon, etc. are submitted.

The fourth part includes maps with data on the main biological features of Lake Ladoga. Here the specificity of biological communities formed in conditions of influence of anthropogenous factors is shown. On maps of this part a distribution of the water macrophytes, periphyton, phytoplankton, bacterioplankton and zooplankton, macro- and meiobenthos, as well as distribution and a biomass of fishes are given.

The atlas includes more than 250 maps, 36 profiles, about 150 diagrams. At last, in the atlas, as the special supplement, the large-scale bathymetrical map of Lake Ladoga for a wide range of consumers is placed. The information submitted in the atlas, covers more than 400 themes, which illustrate the main natural and anthropogenic factors and the processes influencing on a condition of Lake Ladoga ecological system.

The atlas is made in Institute of Lymnology RAS and printed at 444 Military - Cartographical factory. Employees of the following organizations took part in drawing up of the atlas: Hydrographic Service of the Navy, All-Russian Geological Scientific Research Institute, the All-Russia Scientific Research Institute of Ocean Geology and Institute of Water Problems of the North (Karelian Centre of Science of the Russian Academy of Science).

The atlas of Lake Ladoga is proposed to use for perspective and routine planning of region economic development, for development forecast models of influence of growing anthropogenic loading on Lake Ladoga ecosystem, and also as a source of the information for decision of the many scientific and nature protection problems.

The further development of the atlas provides its addition with maps of Lake Ladoga watershed, reduction of all cartographical materials to a state-of-the-art and creation of the electronic version of the atlas as an element of regional geographical information system.
